How to get housekeeping jobs
The average Australian housekeeper earns about $15,000 a year, according to a new report by the Australian Bureau of Statistics.
It found that people who work as housekeepers are likely to earn a salary above the national median wage, at about $24,000 per year.
But the report found that the top 5 per cent of housekeepers earn more than $300,000.
The median salary for Australian housekeepers is $24.60 an hour.
The report found housekeepers with the highest salary ranges are those with a PhD or masters degree, and those who work in areas such as retail and hospitality.
This may help explain why the top 20 per cent make so much money, according the report.
The average household income for Australian residents is $86,000, according Statistics Australia, which is $18,000 more than the national average.
That means a typical housekeeper earning about $40,000 could expect to make $200,000 in annual income.
Housekeeping jobs include cleaning, washing, and cooking.
There are also other jobs such as home health care, child care, and childcare.
The ABS report has been widely criticised for understating the importance of the position.
It also makes a number of errors, including making the salaries of the highest-paid workers seem less than what they are.
Some of the more important details in the report, for example, are missing, such as that housekeepers tend to earn $150,000 or more a year in wages.
Other major errors included the report using data from the Bureau of Employment and Social Protection rather than the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare.
The government and the ABS are still struggling to agree on how to handle the study.
The ABS has released a revised version of its report.
It now includes salary data from 2011.
It is still not clear how much of this has changed.
The previous report also omitted data from 2008, which was the last year the ABS collected data.
